The Popular Committees in the northern West Bank city of Nablus have slammed Tuesday’s attacks on several local media outlets by the Israeli military. A number of radio and TV offices were stormed by Israeli forces, who proceeded to confiscate documents and equipment during the attack.
The Committees stated that the attack and the confiscation of computers, transmitting devices and other operating equipment represented a violation of international law, of the principles of human rights and of the freedom of the press.
The attack was carried out against five TV and Radio stations in Nablus.
Azmi Shiokhy, general-secretary of the Popular Committees, stated that the attacks were the latest in a long line of Israeli violations against the press, media outlets and the personnel working for these organizations.
Shiokhy called on the international community, human rights groups and all media outlets to intervene and expose these violations against international law.
Shiokhy also slammed the Israeli military attack against dozens of Muslim worshipers in Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, after they conducted evening prayers at the Ibrahimi mosque. Soldiers kidnapped several worshipers and took them to an unknown destination. He accused the Israeli military of attempting to prevent worshippers from reaching the Mosque and of repeatedly attacking and harassing employees of the Waqf department, which is responsible for Muslim holy sites in Palestine.
“This is a comprehensive war against our people, and against the holy places”, Shiokhy stated. He demanded that the international community and Muslim world intervene to put pressure on Israel to halt its violations against Muslim and Christian holy sites in Palestine.
