Sixty Palestinian civilians were detained by Israeli soldiers, on Monday, during house-to-house raids targeting the Shufat refugee camp in the city of Jerusalem.Local sources said that troops stormed the refugee camp on Monday morning, firing tear gas and rubber-coated-steel bullets at resident’s homes.

Witnesses reported the soldiers then rounded up men of all ages and detained them at a nearby detention facility known to locals as al-Maskupya.

Later in the day clashes erupted when local youths hurled stones at soldiers who fired upon them. At least a dozen youths are reported to have been injured.

Later in the day, troops attacked a local clinic and detained the doctors working there, stopping them from providing medical care for those injured, local sources added.

Furthermore, the Palestine Festival of Literature organization posted on their Twitter account that Israeli military invaded a poetry workshop that they were hosting in connection with the British Council, the UK state run international cultural relations organization.

The event was being held in a children’s centre in the camp.

Witnesses say that soldiers are currently stationed around the refugee camp.

Shufat refugee camp has been the location of many clashes over the past few weeks. Many protests took place in defiance of Israeli home demolition orders and other activities carried out by Israeli troops.
