Israeli Border Police officers shot and killed a Palestinian man, Ayman Al-Hashlamoun, during what it called an armed confrontation that erupted as the forces invaded the Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem in the West Bank, Monday.
The soldiers stormed the nearby Qalandia Training Center, firing live rounds, gas bombs, and concussion grenades, and prevented ambulance crews from reaching the wounded man before he succumbed to his injuries.
The invasion began at dawn, when large numbers of Israeli forces invaded the refugee camp from multiple directions, deploying snipers on rooftops and surrounding the Qalandia Vocational Training Center.
Witnesses said Ayman was shot on College Street, and that Israeli occupation forces blocked Palestinian ambulance crews from reaching him for an extended period. He was later pronounced dead from a critical head wound, before the army seized his body.
The Jerusalem Governorate confirmed that the army stormed the vocational institute opposite the camp and fired a barrage of live ammunition, gas bombs, and concussion grenades inside and around the facility, causing panic among students and staff.
The soldiers also fire live rounds at Palestinian journalists near the training center, in addition to detaining and interrogating many young men.
In a statement, the Israeli police claimed that Border Police units “foiled an armed attack,” alleging that a Palestinian exited a vehicle and opened fire at the soldiers with a rifle.
Israeli police said the Border Police officers “neutralized” the Palestinian man, term Israeli authorities routinely use to indicate that the person was killed. No injuries were reported among the Israeli forces.
Residents said the army sealed the main entrances to the camp, deployed drones overhead, and continued firing toward homes and civilian structures as the invasion expanded into several neighborhoods.
Monday’s killing comes amid near‑daily Israeli invasions across West Bank refugee camps and cities, many of which have resulted in fatalities, injuries, and extensive property damage.
