The Lebanese government has amended one of its labor laws to allow Palestinians to work in areas previously forbidden to them. The Administration and Justice Parliamentary Committee amended Article 59 of the labor law which has Palestinians register with Lebanese civil authorities in order to be able to access certain professions.
The change in law allows them to maintain their refugee status while offering new avenues for work.
Coming up on August 17 is a vote to determine whether the state of Lebanon will extend certain other rights to the Palestinian refugees who live in Lebanon. There are about 425,000 living in twelve camps across the country.
The expanded rights would include the right to own property, social security and other professions.
