Five Palestinians were killed and others injured on Monday in two Israeli drone strikes on Gaza City, according to emergency medical sources, as Israeli forces continued attacks across the Gaza Strip amid a tightened blockade.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Gaza Civil Defense, said an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a civilian vehicle in the Tal al Hawa neighborhood in southwestern Gaza City, killing Bara’ Ayman ar Roubi (35), Mo’men Sa’id al Hawari (34), and Talal Badawi (38).
In an earlier strike, an Israeli drone killed two Palestinians — Assem Khaled Tawfiq Abu Abdu and Omar Mohammad al Sarraj — after targeting a group of civilians south of the Municipal Park in western Gaza City.
Also, the Israeli army claimed responsibility for killing Omar Mohammad al Sarraj and described him as a commander in Hamas’ supply and maintenance unit.
The Israeli army said it had targeted another member of Hamas’ military wing, alleging that the target had worked to rebuild the movement’s capabilities and plan operations against Israeli forces and civilians. The army described those activities as a “systematic violation” of the ceasefire.
Off the coast of Gaza City, Israeli naval vessels opened fire on Palestinian fishing boats, and a drone dropped an explosive device, injuring five fishermen — one critically — according to Zakaria Bakr, head of the Fishermen’s Syndicate.
Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) teams transported the wounded to the Shifa Hospital and the al Saraya field medical facility.
Witnesses said Israeli naval vessels fired live rounds and shells at Palestinian fishermen working off the Gaza City coast.
In central Gaza, Israeli armored vehicles advanced around the Wadi Gaza Bridge along Salahuddin Street, while tanks opened heavy machine gun fire toward areas east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, injuring at least one Palestinian.
Simultaneous artillery fire and drone dropped explosives struck eastern Khan Younis, Rafah, and the eastern areas of the al Bureij and al Maghazi refugee camps.
Israeli vehicles also opened heavy fire east of Deir al Balah, alongside artillery strikes east of the central governorate and additional shelling targeting eastern Jabalia in northern Gaza.
Gaza’s fishermen continue to face severe restrictions on access to the sea. A United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs report published on July 1, 2026 stated that access by sea remained prohibited.
In May 2026, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces controlled 60% of the Gaza Strip. A July 2026 UNICEF humanitarian update reported that 1.9 million of Gaza’s 2.1 million people were displaced.
Hamas said what was happening in Gaza was “no longer a series of violations, but a continuing war in different forms.”
Hamas added that the situation “requires international, United Nations and popular action to isolate the occupation and hold its fascist leaders accountable.”
In its daily update dated August 31, 2026, the Ministry of Health in Gaza said Israeli attacks since the “ceasefire” began on October 11 had killed 1,320 Palestinians and injured 4,385. During the same period, rescue teams recovered 815 bodies from rubble and roads.
The Ministry of Health said the cumulative toll since October 7, 2023, had reached 73,456 Palestinians killed and 174,496 injured during the genocide in Gaza.
Gaza Civil Defense officials said many victims remain under rubble or in destroyed neighborhoods that ambulance and rescue teams cannot reach because of continuing Israeli bombardment, widespread structural destruction, equipment shortages caused by the siege, and the lack of safe access routes.
