Three workers injured at a tunnel accident in Gaza and the army takes more Palestinian land for settlement construction in the west Bank. These stories, and more, coming up, stay tuned.
Three Palestinian workers were injured on Tuesday when the tunnel at the Gaza Strip – Egypt borders caught fire.
According to security sources in Gaza the fire started when a cooking gas canister leaked while the workers were moving it from the Egyptian side to Gaza.
Medical sources said that two of the men sustained critical wounds and burns from the fire while the third sustained moderate wounds.
The tunnel between the Gaza Strip and Egypt became the sources of much needed medical, food and fuel supplies to the 1.6 million Palestinians living in the costal enclave after the Israeli siege started back in 2006.
In the West Bank today, the Israeli army closed all checkpoints connecting west Bank cities with Jerusalem forbidding Palestinians from reaching the city. The closer will continue until Sunday due to the Jewish holydays, army sources announced.
Jerusalem’s old city residents reported high police and army deployment adding that troops stopped young men search them and checked their ID cards.
In other news the Israeli army issued military orders today to Palestinian farmers from the village of Nahalien, near Bethlehem city in southern West Bank, confiscating 50 dunoms of their lands to construct a new Israeli settlement.
The military order said that 70 new homes will be added to the nearby Bitar Eilit illegal settlement, originally built on lands stolen from Nahalien farmers.
