The Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate has emphasized the urgent need to protect Palestinian journalists amid ongoing killings and persecution, as violence continued through nearly 80 documented crimes, assaults, and violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces, in April.
In a statement released Thursday by its “Freedom Committee,” the syndicate condemned the intensified attacks by Israeli forces, citing the use of rockets and various forms of ammunition. These assaults resulted in the killing of three journalists in Gaza last month.
The statement detailed a series of targeted acts against journalists, including four incidents of gunfire directed at media crews, the destruction of three journalists’ family homes, the abduction of four reporters, and physical assaults against five others.
Additionally, there were 25 cases of journalists being detained or blocked from covering events, while 11 others were exposed to toxic tear gas. Violations also included threats, incitement, verbal abuse, home invasion, and mock trials.
The syndicate highlighted that these attacks on the press community continue to escalate despite extensive efforts by its leadership and committees to secure international and human rights intervention to safeguard journalists.
The Shirin Observatory has reported that since the start of the genocide in October 2023 through the end of April 2025, 241 Palestinian journalists have been killed in the Gaza Strip, and one in the West Bank.
