Roads near al-Jalazun and al-Amari refugee camps, as well as near the village of Surda, in the Ramallah area, were blocked with rocks and flaming tires, according to a report by the Alternative Information Center (AIC).
A number of security officers and protestors were injured during the clashes that evolved in the area, as Palestinian security forces attempted to disperse the protest in Surda. The director of Ramallah police, Omar al-Bzouz, was hit in the eye.
The protests come amid weeks of demonstrations, strikes and hunger strikes, as UNRWA local employees across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip demonstrate against layoffs, AIC reports.
Solidarity strikes have been ongoing since UNRWA laid off 55 employees in late 2013, leading to major service closures in the 19 refugee camps in the West Bank. UNRWA schools have been closed for over a month, due to the dispute.
