The Palestinian-American teen who was brutally beaten and detained, Thursday, by undercover Jerusalem police is to have his case heard on Sunday, according to media and rights groups.Tarek Abu Khdeir, born in the US, is cousin to Muhammad Abu Khdeir, the 16-year-old Palestinian who was abducted and burned alive by Israeli settlers, just the day prior.
The 15-year-old was attacked in the neaighborhood of Shu’fat at around 8 p.m., according to Ma’an News Agency. Israeli police arrested him without charge, in the yard of his uncle’s home, Addameer prisoner rights group said on its website.
He was immediately taken to a police station, where police delayed treatment of the boy’s injuries until 1:20 a.m. He was then taken to Hadassa Hospital, where he was finally permitted to see his parents.
Tarek will be detained until at least Sunday morning, when his case will be heard. He is one of several Palestinians who were beaten and detained by police that night, according to Addameer.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations has called on the US State Department to secure his release, Ma’an further reports.
