EU foreign ministers will meet Monday to define the 25-nation bloc’s position in the wake of Friday’s ruling by the International Court of Justice against Israel’s West Bank separation wall.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia appealed Saturday for EU backing in securing UN enforcement of the non-binding court ruling.
Prior to the court ruling, the EU opposed the construction of the separation. However, it did not support Palestinian decision to take the issue to the world court.
Dutch Foreign Minister Ben Bot, who chaired Monday’s meeting, said the court’s decision ‘will need to be studied carefully.’
Commentators believe that it will be hard for the EU 25 states to arrive at a consensus concerning the separation wall issue.
