Sunday afternoon, an Israeli military source reported that soldiers arrested a Palestinian teen on Huwwara checkpoint, near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The army claims that Khalil Mohammed Hashash, 16, was arrested at the checkpoint after soldiers uncovered with him homemade pipe bombs.

An Israeli military spokesperson said that soldiers became suspicious after seeing the teen carrying a wooden box, and decided to search him.

Soldiers detonated the explosives in a controlled explosion, the spokesperson said.

The army claims that the family of Khalil has “a history of weapon possession”.

The teen said the he had no intention to carry out an attack against the soldiers or Israelis.

According to an Israeli media source, the teen said that he “wanted o get a break from this life, and hoping to collect money from the Palestinian Prisoner associations in the occupied territories to aid his family, according to the source. 

Army claims foiling 21 attempts to smuggle weapons and explosives into Israel over the past three months, the arrested residents in these attempts were under the age of 18, according to the army.
