More than 100 Democrats in the US House of Representatives, on Friday, signed a letter rejecting Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan, dubbed the “deal of the century” the Palestinian News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.
The Democratic Congress-members joined leaders around the world who have opposed the deal, saying that it is not a “peace” deal, but the legitimization of land theft, which will only lead to more conflict and violence.
The Congress-members who signed the letter say the deal will “hurt Israelis and Palestinians alike, pushing them toward further conflict.”
The letter, led by Democratic Representatives Alan Lowenthal and Andy Levin states “It does not have our support, and the Israeli government must not take it as a license to violate international law by annexing all or portions of the West Bank.”
The letter continued, “In addition to the highly problematic nature of your proposal, the timing of its release suggests motives unrelated to helping solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
The deal was made public by Trump in the middle of his trial in the U.S. Senate for abuse of power and obstruction of justice. He was acquitted last Wednesday in a vote that ran almost completely along party lines.
