An Israel soldier was moderately wounded Thursday as an explosive device detonated near a military jeep patrooling the Israeli side of the northern Gaza Strip security fence.
army source said the locally made 10 kg shell was detonated from a distance.
The wounded soldier was hit in the head by shrapnel, and was evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva.ÂÂ
Palestinian residents in the area said that following the incident Israeli soldiers began firing machine guns at nearby residential areas, and a military helicopter was seen landing in the vicinity.
