Two Palestinian residents were killed and two Israeli soldiers were injured after the Israeli army invaded the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem.

One of the residents killed was a Palestinian policeman.

According to Israeli security sources, soldiers invaded Tulkarem in retaliation for Tuesday’s suicide bombing in Netanya, which left four Israelis dead and 90 injured.

A local source in Tulkarem said that Palestinian resistance fired at the army after it invaded Tulkarem, lightly injuring two soldiers. The soldiers returned fire, killing two.

Five Tulkarem residents, said to be members of the Islamic Jihad, were arrested.

A senior Israeli military source reported that the military operation in Tulkarem will be long “since the Palestinian Authority is not conducting enough efforts to counter terrorism,” according to the source.

“Tulkarem became a safe refuge to the Islamic Jihad, which is responsible for the death of 10 Israelis over the last six months,” the source added.

In the aftermath of the Netanya suicide bombing, the Israeli army has sealed off the West Bank and Gaza Strip until further notice.
