Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is slated to go to the Gaza Strip for meetings with leaders of the Palestinian factions and resistance groups, Palestinian officials said on Thursday.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a senior aide to Abbas said, “The president will meet all the factions and related parties to discuss several things, most importantly the preparations for the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and to enforce the Cairo understandings reached last March.”

He added that several steps and measures will be taken in this direction in addition to Palestinian-Palestinian meetings.

While Palestinian officials confirmed that they will do their best to maintain the relative calm declared by the Palestinian factions, they blamed Israel’s government for the latest escalation in the area.
