Israeli artillery shelled the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Palestinian sources reported.

The source said that this is the second time Israel shells the Gaza Strip in less than two days.

Eyewitnesses in Beit Hanoun said they heard loud explosions near their town but cause no damage or casualties.

Palestinian medical sources reported that the Israeli army warned the residents in the area including the ambulances of driving at night.

Israeli military sources said the army’s shelling was in response to a home-made shell that was fired from that area at Israel.

Israeli air force gun ships continued to launch false strike at Gaza causing loud explosions.

Gaza residents said they have seen F-16 jet fighters flying over the city causing sonic booms and causing explosions which scared children in the early hours of Wednesday.

Local sources in Gaza said Israel never used this tactic before evacuating the settlers from the Gaza Strip last month.

‘Israel never used these false strikes in Gaza when the settlers were still there, because they know this will scare the settlers’ children,’ a Gaza resident told IMEMC on the phone, ‘but now, as their children left, they do not care what effect these explosions leave on Palestinian children, especially when they wake up to the sound of explosions’ he added.

The Aqsa Martyr Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah, said in a statement to the media, that they have launched two home-made ‘Aqsa 3’ shells at the southern Israeli town of Sderot.  No damage or injuries were reported.

The statement said, ‘firing the shells is a response to the crimes Israel commit against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,’ in reference to the latest assassinations Israeli army carried out in the West Bank against two resistance fighters in Tulkarem two days ago.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the assassination of the fighters and added that the Palestinian resistance response is ‘silly’, in reference to firing the home-made shells against Sderot.

‘I condemn the Israeli aggression against our people in Tulkarem, but I think that the Palestinian response to it is ridiculous and back-fires at the Palestinian People,’ said Abbas.
