Israeli soldiers shelled, on Friday evening, Khaza’a town, east of Khan Younis in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, damage was reported, no injuries.
A Palestinian security source in Gaza reported that Israeli heavy artillery, stationed at the borders, east of the town, fired several shells at homes and fields in the area.
Several Palestinian homes were damaged during the shelling which was carried out without any prior clashes, the source stated.
Dozens of families, and their children, fled their homes fearing additional shelling.
The Israeli Peace Bloc accused the Israeli government, on Friday, of escalating the situation in the Palestinian territories in order to lead the area into an additional phase of violence.
“The shelling, damage and killing could be stopped if real desire exists”, the bloc reported, “Lives on both sides could be spared”.
Also the bloc accused Sharon and his minister of defense Shaul Mofaz of “acting in order to escalate the area and inflame the territories”.
The bloc added that Labor party ministers who joined Sharon in his coalition in order to succeed the Disengagement Plan should withdraw from the government now after it was successfully implemented.
“But they preferred to remain in a government which only acts violently; those ministers are to be held responsible for any escalation too”.
