Director of the Israeli Military Intelligence Major General Aharon Ze’evi (Farkash) said on Tuesday that the international pressure exerted on Iran forced it to delay it nuclear development plan for two years.

Ze’evi made his comments while talking before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense committee.

He added that Iran is determined to continue its attempts to develop a nuclear bomb, and that Iran’s nuclear apparatus is considered a real threat to the western countries.

Ze’evi, who was making his last appearance before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said that Iran was, nevertheless, determined to secretly continue its bid to develop a nuclear bomb.

He also said that today Iran’s nuclear aspirations constitute a real threat to western countries.

He claimed that Iran had recently received 12cruise missiles with a 3000km range, which are also capable of carrying nuclear heads.

According to Ze’evi, 18 missiles were transferred from Ukraine to Russia, and that 12 of them ended in Iran.

Also, Ze’evi said that there are growing concerns in Israel that Palestinian armed groups would be able to smuggle weapons into the Gaza Strip, including anti-tank, anti-aircraft missiles and Katyusha rockets.

“The army must prepare for the possibility that armed groups are trying to smuggle such weapons into Gaza”, Farkash said, “These efforts are carried out despite the efforts of the Palestinian and Egyptian security to prevent the smuggling of arms”.
