The Palestinian People Party (PPP) announced on Friday that an Israeli court in Jerusalem accused Bassam Salhi, secretary general of the leftist PPP, of attacking Israeli soldiers and illegally crossing a military checkpoint in Dahiat Al Bareed area in Jerusalem during the presidential elections which were held in January 2005.The party said that Salhi, who was elected for the Palestinian Legislative Council  (PLC) this year, is also charged with “inciting against the Israeli government”.

A statement release by the PPP revealed that the Israeli court will hold its hearing session against Salhi on March 6 which is the date of the first PLC session in Ramallah and Gaza.

The legislators in Ramallah and Gaza PLC headquarters will hold their session through the video conference system as a result of the Israeli restrictions on movement.

Israeli procedures and violations against Palestinian legislators are limiting their movement and violating their rights as elected representatives of the Palestinian people.

Salhi said that these procedures are direct violations to the international law, and affirmed his rejection to the Israeli illegal laws against the people and their representatives.

He also called on the international community to guarantee the diplomatic immunity to the elected legislators and leaders.

Also, Saldi added that Palestinian legislators should cooperate and unite their efforts against the Israeli procedures and violations.
