On Thursday, two prominent Palestinian citizens started an open-ended hunger strike to protest the dire economic situation created by the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, and the ‘collective punishment’ of the Palestinian people for their election of the Hamas party in January.

Mohammed Esteiti, a retired teacher and Abdul Fattah Abu al-Thahab, who works with the YMCA in Jenin have joined the writer, Adnan al-Sabbah, who started an open hunger strike three days ago.

"Our protest is a move to gain solidarity with our people and to expose to the world the Israeli policy of siege and starvation imposed on the Palestinian people", Esteiti said.

Since the Hamas party took office in the Palestinian territories in January, the Palestinian Authority has had international aid money cut off, and the Palestinian people have been under a continuous siege by the occupying Israeli military.
