Lebanese sources reported on Sunday that one Palestinian fighter of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – the General Command, was killed and six others were injured in Israeli strikes that targeted training basis in southeast Lebanon.

An Israeli military commander claimed that the strike was carried out after three to eight Katyusha rockets were fired at northern Israel from Lebanon Sunday morning, the Israeli Air Force responded with an air strike on two bases in southeast Lebanon.

According to the commander, some of the Katyushas hit in the residential section of the military air control unit base in Mount Meron, some 10 km (6.25 miles) from the border; one soldier was in a state of shock, and one of the base’s buildings was lightly damaged.

Shortly after 10 a.m. the air force retaliated with missile strikes in the Lebanese valley, the source added.

The first Israeli attack targeted a headquarters of the Popular Front general headquarters in Sultan Ya’coub, five kilometers from the Syrian border.

The Qatar based Al Jazeera news channel reported that eight missiles were fired at the base, wounding at least three operatives.

Afterwards, the Israeli air-force launched an additional attack at a Popular Front base in the Nueima area south of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

A statement released by the Israeli army held the Lebanese government responsible for all attacks emanating from the Lebanese territories.

Israel has also instructed its delegation to the United Nations to submit a formal complaint over the attack.

A senior PFLP leader told Al Jazeera that his group has the right to retaliate for the Israeli attacks, and said that fighters fired at Israeli war-jets that entered the Lebanese airspace.

Meanwhile, Likud member of Knesset, Yuval Steinitz, demanded the Israeli government launch strikes against facilities in Lebanon, including infrastructure facilities located in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Israeli troops raised the alert level on the borders with Lebanese fearing retaliation from the Lebanon based Hezbollah party, and other groups.

Also, an Israeli military spokesperson held the Islamic Jihad responsible for the Katyushas especially after their leader in south Lebanese, Mahmoud Majdoub, was assassinated on Friday; Israeli denied any relation with the assassination.

Following a request from the Lebanese government, United Nations peace-keepers brokered a cease-fire early Sunday evening between Israel and Hizbollah in southern Lebanon.

The deal came after a day of cross-border clashes in which two Israel soldiers were wounded, and two fighters were killed.
