The Palestinian government called on Wednesday for a prisoner swap, saying the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip is not the right way to release the captured soldier.

Spokesman of the Palestinian Ministry of Information who demanded the resistance groups, who hold the captured soldier, said in a statement that the swap is the natural thing to be done in this case.

“It is natural logic to carry out an exchange, this has been exercised by previous Israeli governments with Hezbollah and the PLO, and this is what other countries do in conflict situations," the statement said.

This, as Israeli forces have launched a military operation they called, “Summer Rain” claiming that it is aimed at “rescuing” the soldier who was captured in a military operation carried out last Sunday by the Qassam brigade of Hamas, The Popular Resistance Movement and The Islam Army.

The operation targeted a military base at Kerem Shaom on the southeast tip of Gaza Strip, in which two Israeli soldiers and two Palestinian fighters where killed.

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri said Gaza invasion must not be linked to the capture of the soldier as Israel prepared for this invasion prior to Sunday’s attack.
