To ease the economic burden of thousands of Palestinian families, the
Palestinian Ministry of Transport requested that a less costly form of
gas be available for automobiles. If the Council of Ministers accepts
the draft, the cost of gasoline is expected to decrease considerably.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport plans to revise the Executive Traffic Law by the end of the year, according to Transport Minister Said Al Din Khurma, as well as reduce the cost of garages and vehicle registration by 50 percent. The ministry also plans to extend the time periods for the registration of older vehicles. The slated cost of these changes for the year 2007 is roughly 71 million USD, the Transport Minister said.
These proposed amendments are a part of the government’s larger plan to improve licensing, maintenance and assistance in areas such as media, fishing and infrastructure projects.
