In what are described as the worst bouts of internal violence since rival Palestinian factions agreed to form a unity government in Makkah last month, it is reported that also on Monday, unknown gunmen fired at the house and car of a senior security officer. Shots were also fired at a police headquarters, and police returned fire, officials said.
Security forces loyal to Fateh movement demanded that Hamas gunmen leave the area, but they refused and said that the area is under the control of security forces loyal to Hamas.
In two separate attacks, unknown gunmen fired rounds of live ammunition at the house and car of a Fatah loyalist Palestinian security officer.
