A would-be suicide bomber drove to Tel Aviv but for unknown reasons returned to his hometown of Qalqilya in the West Bank, without carrying out the attack. The bomb then was accidentally detonated in Qalqilya, causing no casualties, according to Israeli sources. The Israeli media sources reported on Tuesday that "a major suicide attack on Tel Aviv was prevented this Passover". It transpires that the incident occurred before the Jewish holiday of Passover, which began on April 2nd, and that Israeli forces and secret service officers then invaded the West Bank city of Qalqilya and seized 19 Hamas members. According to the Israeli media sources the individuals were planning to detonate a car bomb containing some 220 lbs of explosives. According to the investigations, the group was plotting to carry out a number of different attacks in addition to this car bomb.
