Taiseer Khalid, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, stated on Thursday that the Israeli military escalation, the shelling of civilian neighborhoods and infrastructure, the kidnapping of officials and ministers shows Israeli weakness and attempts to hide the internal Israeli crisis. Khalid stated that the Israeli assaults are just causing further deterioration in the region and are inflicting more suffering on the Palestinian civilians.
He added that the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip and the recent abductions of Hamas officials, ministers and mayors is considered the official Israeli response to the ceasefire offer declared by the Palestinians.
The Palestinians declared ceasefire after a meeting between president Mahmoud Abbas, prime minister Ismail Haniyya and representatives of Fateh, Hamas, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Islamic Jihad.
“This is a direct message from Israel that it wants to resume its attacks, and that it wants to close any file regarding Palestinian-Israeli talks”, Khalid said, “Israel does not want to advance into the political track, and wants to cover its internal crisis by escalating the situation in the region”.
Khalid also called on the Palestinian leadership to file appeals to the Security Council and the International Community, and called on the Palestinian Legislative Council, and the Palestinian National Council to contact different parliaments around the globe to practice pressure on Israel to stop its violations, and to release all abducted ministers, legislators and officials.
