A fighter with the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the Fateh party, was killed on Monday when his car exploded in Shati refugee camp.

Witnesses said that Israeli planes were flying overhead when the car exploded into fire. One unidentified fighter was killed, and another man was wounded.

The car was driving through a neighborhood of Hamas sympathizers (Hamas is the rival party to Fateh), leading some to believe that it was not Israelis, but internal fighting was the motive of the attack.

These rumors were given more credence when the Al Aqsa Martyr Brigades issued a statement that one of its fighters had been killed, but did not blame Israeli warplanes.

Israeli forced have killed over 1600 Palestinians in Gaza over the last year. Two hundred Palestinians were killed in internal clashes last year between Hamas and Fateh, the two major Palestinian political parties.
