Israel handed the United Nations the amount of 10.5 Million USD in compensation for the damages to its facilities inflicted by the Israeli army during the offensive against the Gaza Strip last year.

A source at the United Nations in New York said stated on Friday evening that the UN considers this issue an obligation on Israel to repay for targeting UN facilities.

An Israeli source reported that the compensation came after lengthy negotiations with the UN and what he described “Israeli cooperation with the investigation committee” that examined the bombarded UN buildings, including warehouses and schools.

Yet, the source said that Israel decided to pay the compensation “although it did not have to”.

Israeli political sources slammed the United Nations and said that the UN overlooked damages caused to its facilities by “terrorist groups in Gaza and Lebanon”.

The sources also accused the UN of not acting to stop the Palestinian fighters from “using UN facilities to fire homemade shells into Israel”.

Israel’s indiscriminate shelling on Gaza targeted homes, schools, UN facilities, hospitals, educational facilities, medical facilities, infrastructure and even mosques.

1419 Palestinians were killed during the three-week war on Gaza, thousands were wounded; hundreds seriously. The number of slain Palestinians approached 1600 as dozens of critically wounded Palestinians died of their wounds later on.

It is worth mentioning that Israel refused to cooperate with the UN fact-finding committee, headed by South African Judge, Richard Goldstone.
