Local sources reported Wednesday that three Palestinians were shot and wounded after the Israeli army opened fire at a nonviolent protest east of Al Shujaeyya in Gaza city. The protest against what Israel calls the “security belt” in Gaza was organized by the Popular Committee Against the Belt, as Israel is using Palestinian areas behind the fence as buffer zones.
Dr. Moawiya Hassanen, head of the Emergency Department at the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, reported that the three residents suffered light-to-moderate wounds and were moved to the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza City.
Walid Al Awad, member of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian People Party, stated that hundreds of residents protested near the fence carrying Palestinian flags and chanting slogans against the illegal Israeli measures.
Al Awad added that several armored vehicles were seen near the border while military helicopters and drones hovered over the area.
On Tuesday, the committee held its weekly protest against the Israeli violations and the so-called security zone Israel is enforcing on the expense of the residents and their lands.
