Egyptian sources reported that an African immigrant was shot and killed on Friday morning by Egyptian Border Police fire as he was trying to infiltrate into Israel, another immigrant was detained at the border with Israel.The sources stated that two immigrants was 5 kilometers away from the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) Crossing, and that the Border Police opened fire at them. They are both from Chad.
One of them died of a gunshot wound in his neck, while the other was detained.
The wounded immigrant confessed during interrogation that he and the slain immigrant were on their way to Israel searching for work.
He added that they paid nearly 2,000 US Dollars to Egyptian smugglers.
Egypt said that this is the first time immigrants from Chad are caught on the border.
