During a state address, on Tuesday at night, Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has stated that he will not stand at the coming elections.Mubarak claimed during his address that he had spent his life serving the Egyptian people, using his personal history as a member of the Egyptian air force to attempt to give him credence, despite his thirty year tenure as Egyptian president that has been repeatedly criticized for lack of freedoms, including political, social and economic.

During his address Mubarak claimed that he would spend the remainder of his term restoring peace and security in Egypt, leading to the televised response of protesters in Tahrir Square to continue to call for Mubarak to leave immediately.

Despite repeated reports from the Egyptian protestors and military personnel that the majority of looting was conducted by state police, Mubarak laid the blame on a negative current within the Egyptian protestors.

Elections are expected in September 2011.
