Immunity from prosecution has been lifted from several PA government Ministers in order to allow investigations into charges they have been involved in instances of corruption according to Rafiq Natsheh, head of the anti corruption commission. PA President Mahmoud Abbas has lifted immunity from prosecution privileges from government ministers under suspicion of corruption in order to allow investigations into their dealings.
In a statement to Voice of Palestine Radio Rafiq Natsheh stated the individuals are under suspicion of the theft of public funds as well as administrative and financial corruption.
The Palestinian Corruption law was enacted in June 2010 in response to a series of corruption scandals that rocked the PA earlier that year. The anti corruption commission announced it was investigating 80 cases of corruption in January of this year and had recovered $5 million in misappropriated funds.
