Islamic Jihad have declared that leading member, Jaffar Izz al-Din, 40 years old, has begun an open hunger strike following his detention in rejection of the policy of administrative detention.The Israeli army took Sheikh Izz al-Din, on Friday, into administrative detention after raiding his home in Araba, in the district of Jenin, in the northern West Bank.
Prior to this detention, Sheikh Izz al-Din spent 4 years in Israeli prisons, mostly in administrative detention. He is the brother of Tariq Izz al-Din, who was deported to the Gaza Strip as part of the recent prisoner exchange deal. Tariq had also spent several years in administrative detention.
