The residents of the Rotem settlement in the North Jordan Valley seized Palestinian land Wednesday as part of their continued illegal expansion. On Wednesday settlers from Rotem, an Israeli settlement in the northern part of the Jordan Valley, seized lands outside of the current perimeter of the settlement, reports the Palestinian News Network.
The settlers quietly moved during the morning to incorporate new lands into the settlement, including an adjacent hill. The hill was promptly fenced and barricaded from its Palestinian owners. The settlers then set the foundations for future facilities.
The settlement is built entirely on Palestinian land and has been expanding in an area that is among the most fertile in the entire West Bank. The lands are very valuable for both agriculture and livestock but no official notice of confiscation was presented to the local residents. This kind of tactic is not uncommon in the West Bank where illegal settlements are expanded in violation of international law and often without Israeli authorization.
