Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, will be flying to Tehran, on Tuesday evening, in order to participate in the summit of the international Nonaligned Movement. Abbas will be heading to Jordan before flying to Tehran.The President will be accompanied by Dr. Saeb Erekat, Riyadh Al-Maliky, Nabil Abu Rodeina, and several other officials.

The Quds Net news website reported that Abbas will likely deliver what was described as an “important speech” in which he talks about the stalled peace process and the future of negotiations, in addition to the Palestinian full membership application at the United Nations.

Abbas will also talk about Palestinian reconciliation and the future relations between his Fateh movement and the rival Hamas movement.

It is worth mentioning that Ismail Haniyya of Hamas in Gaza, said that he will not be participating in the summit. Abbas said that he will not attend the summit should Hamas participate, the Quds Net said.

This will be the first visit Abbas conducts to Tehran since he was elected president in 2006.

Abbas’s Political Adviser, Nimir Hammad, told the Quds Net that the summit should focus on affirming all resolutions that support the legitimate Palestinian cause and struggle against the occupation, and the Palestinian right to international recognition of statehood and independence.
