The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, stated that it will publish on Thursday 18th a documentary regarding the abduction of Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, and the stages that followed until his release last year. The “Vanishing Illusion” will be published marking the first anniversary since the prisoner-swap deal was implemented and Shalit was released in exchange for the release of 1037 of Palestinian detainees. The deal was implemented under Egyptian mediation and supervision.
The Al-Qassam stated that the documentary provides important details, from the planning stage, to the actual attack against the cross-border military base, the abduction and all stages that followed Shalit’s release.
The documentary includes reenactment scenes that detailed tactics used to carry out the abduction.
It also includes, according to the Al-Qassam, never before published footage about the transfer of Shalit to Egypt.
Gilad Shalit was captured in June 2006 when armed fighters from Gaza managed to infiltrate into a military base across the border. Two Israeli soldiers and two Palestinian fighters were killed in the attack.
Israel carried out several military offensives against the Gaza Strip, recruited collaborators and offered huge financial incentives to anyone who could provide information leading to Shalit’s whereabouts, but was unable to locate and rescue the captured soldier.
