Welcome to Palestine Today, a service of the International Middle East Media Center, www.imemc.org, for Monday May 20th, 2013.

The Israeli army attack West Bank communities, kidnap civilians and destroys farmlands. These stories, and more, coming up, stay tuned.

Israeli soldiers invaded Barta’a Ash-Sharqiyya village, near the northern West Bank city of Jenin, demolished five commercial buildings, and handed demolition notices to a number of residents. A car dealership was also demolished in Jerusalem.

Member of the Barta’a Ash-Sharqiyya Village Council, Tawfiq Qabha, told local news that several Israeli military jeeps and bulldozers invaded the village after declaring it a closed military zone, and demolished the structures. The army claimed that the structures “were built without a permit.”

In related news, the army invaded Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in occupied East Jerusalem, and demolished a car dealership shop that belongs to members of the Al-Joulani family in the city.

The army surrounded the store, removed 30 cars out of the shop, and demolished it. The family said that their shop was built on two Dunams of leased land, and that they never received any notices from the army or the city council.

Moreover Israeli soldiers uprooted, on Monday, more than four Dunams (0.98 Acres) of agricultural lands in Al-Baq’a village, east of Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.

Ata’ Jaber, a local farmer, told local news that the army uprooted and bulldozed the lands, and destroyed irrigation systems.

Jaber added that the lands were planted with tomato seedlings, beans, and zucchinis, and are nearly 500 kilometers away from the Kharseena illegal Israeli settlement.

He further stated that several soldiers and extremist settlers constantly attack the residents and their lands, and that the settlers repeatedly destroy irrigation systems, while in many cases the army illegally confiscates irrigation systems and agricultural materials.

Earlier on Monday at dawn, Israeli soldiers invaded kafr Qalil village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and kidnapped three Palestinians. Local sources reported that the army broke into several homes, and violently searched them causing property damage.
