Five people were killed overnight in a gas explosion, in the northern Israeli city of Acre, Israeli media has reported. The three-story building in Acre’s Old City collapsed, just following the blast, killing five and injuring at least 10 people.
Ma’an reports that the victims were a couple aged 38 and 43 and a family of three, including an eight-year-old boy.
The explosion may have been set off by a fire which was intentionally started to damage cellular telephone equipment on the top floor of the building, which locals claim has increased cancer rates, Haaretz reported.
There have been several attempts, in the past, to set fire to the equipment.
