Over 65 Palestinians have been injured in ongoing confrontations with Israeli forces in occupied East Jerusalem, today, after 16-year-old Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir was kidnapped from the Shu’fat region and killed by Israeli settlers. The boy’s burned body was found early this morning in a vacant lot in another part of the city, the apparent victim of a revenge attack over the three Israeli teens whose bodies were uncovered near the alleged site of their disappearance over two weeks ago.
According to Al Ray, protesters in Shu’fat burned tires, smashed glass at the light rail station, hurled stones at soldiers and police, calling: ‘We will sacrifice our lives for the Shahids!’
Israeli Security forces responded by firing stun grenades into the crowd.
The Red Crescent said that at least 65 people have been hurt in the clashes, including three with live bullets. At least 35 people were injured by rubber-coated metal bullets, including six journalists.
Palestine TV reporter Kristine Rinawi and cameramen Ali Yasin and Ahmad Gharabla were among those reported injured, according to Ma’an.
Two sustained fractures after being assaulted by police officers.
Meanwhile, the families of the three Israeli settlers, who were abducted and killed recently, have issued a statement regarding the incident.
‘If the Arab youth was murdered because of nationalistic motives then this is a horrible and horrendous act,’ it said, adding:
‘There is no difference between Arab blood and Jewish blood. Murder is murder. There is no forgiveness or justification for any murder.’
