Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian fisherman in Gaza on Wednesday, according to the head of a local union said.Nizar Ayyash told Ma’an News Agency that Atef Muhammad Baker, age 19, was shot in the foot after the Israeli navy opened fire on fishing boats off Gaza’s northern coast.

The fishermen were again within the Israeli-imposed fishing zone at the time of the incident, Ayyash added. However, an Israeli army spokesperson claimed that several vessels deviated from the designated fishing zone, with Israeli forces opening fire after they failed to respond to warning shots.

Baker was taken to hospital for treatment.
