Clashes took place, on Friday afternoon, near the Ofer Israeli prison, built on Palestinian lands belonging to Betunia residents, west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, after the army attacked Palestinians protesting nearby. The residents burnt tires, and closed a main road, before the soldiers fired dozens of gas bombs and rubber-coated metal bullets targeting the protesters, and many nearby homes and cars.
Many Palestinians have been injured, largely due to the effects of teargas inhalation, medical sources in Ramallah said.
The protesters hurled stones and empty bottles at the soldiers and their armored vehicles.
The army also surrounded Betunia, and obstructed Palestinian traffic for several hours.
