In a statement, Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories, has called for urgent international action against Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank. Albanese’s comments come amid ongoing military offensives and heightened tensions in the region.

Albanese criticized Israel’s continued presence in the occupied West Bank, describing it as a breach of international law.

“The occupation and the associated policies and practices are illegal under international law,” she stated, “There is an urgent need for the international community to pressure Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories.”

Her statement highlighted the recent escalation of violence in the Jenin refugee camp, where Israeli forces have been conducting large-scale operations.

These actions have resulted in significant loss of life and extensive damage to infrastructure. Albanese said the situation in Jenin underscores the broader human rights crisis facing Palestinians.

“The current military operations in Jenin have resulted in the deaths of dozens of Palestinians and left many more injured,” Albanese said. “The destruction of homes, the use of lethal force, and the deprivation of basic services like water and electricity are clear violations of international human rights standards.”

Albanese called for the Palestinian Authority to reconsider its security cooperation with Israel, suggesting that such arrangements may inadvertently perpetuate the occupation. She also urged international legal bodies to hold Israeli officials accountable for their actions.

In her report, Albanese detailed numerous human rights violations, including arbitrary detentions, torture, and the targeting of civilians. She emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address these issues, involving both legal action and diplomatic pressure.

“The international community cannot remain silent in the face of such blatant violations of human rights,” Albanese concluded. “It is imperative that we take decisive action to ensure justice and accountability.”

“Israel’s actions in the West Bank are criminal, as widening the scope of destruction beyond Gaza across all the occupied Palestinian territory (I warned the UNGA this was happening, in my last report of October 2024), she stated, “The genocidal intent is evident in the way Israel targets (1) the totality of the Palestinians ‘as such’; (2) in the totality of the occupied Palestinian territory (that Israel claims for Jewish exclusive self-determination). It’s past the time to intervene to stop it.”

In related news, Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon, voiced strong condemnation of the forced displacement of Palestinians and the illegal annexation of the West Bank.

During a meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman, Fajon emphasized that such actions are “absolutely unacceptable.”

She explicitly rejected any forcible displacement of Palestinians to Jordan or Egypt, labeling these acts as violations of international humanitarian law.

Fajon’s statement underscored Slovenia’s firm stance against the forced displacement and illegal annexation, urging the international community to take a definitive stand on these critical issues.

In related news, Rawhi Fattouh, Chairman of the Palestinian National Council, condemned the Israeli explosions that targeted residential areas in the Jenin and Tulkarem refugee camps on Sunday, calling them acts of ethnic cleansing and precursors to forced displacement.

In a press statement, Fattouh warned of the serious implications of these Israeli plans and called on the international community to intervene immediately to stop these violations and hold Israel accountable for its crimes.

He also urged for the support of the Palestinian people’s resilience in the face of these plans and stressed the need to provide necessary protection for Palestinians in the camps.

On Sunday morning, Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian man in the Jenin refugee camp, in Jenin in the occupied West Bank’s northern part, bringing the number of slain Palestinians in Jenin in the last 13 days to 25. The army killed 38 Palestinians in the West Bank this year.

In a statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said the army killed Walid Mohammad Ali Lahlouh, 73. The army began a massive invasion of Jenin thirteen days ago, killing 25 Palestinians and injuring dozens.

Since the beginning of the latest onslaught on Jenin, the army bulldozed and destroyed infrastructure in Jenin refugee camp and destroyed water and electricity infrastructure in the refugee camp and the city, depriving about 35% of the Palestinians of basic services, especially water and electricity.

Also Sunday, Israeli soldiers killed 27-year-old Mohammad Amjad Haddoush and injured several others after the army invaded the Al-Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank’s southern part.

On Saturday, Israeli forces executed two Palestinian young men in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin city, in the northern occupied West Bank.

Media sources said that an Israeli drone fired a missile at a motorcycle travelling in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin, killing two Palestinians, identified as Tamam Mohi El-Din Al-Saadi, 27, and Nour El-Din Nasser Al-Saadi, 32.

It is important to mention that Nour Al-Saadi is the cousin of the slain child, Ahmad Abdel Halim Al-Saadi, 14, who was killed just hours earlier, when an Israeli drone targeted a group of citizens in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin.

Also on Saturday, the occupation army assassinated the young men, Saleh Mohammad Al-Ashab Zakarna, 22, and Abdul Essam Mohammad Kamil, 18, and injured others, after targeting their vehicle in the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin.

In the northwestern part of the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces executed the citizen, Wahid Omar Wahid Madi, 51, in the Tulkarem refugee camp, in Tulkarem city.

The slain Palestinians are among eight Palestinians the Israeli army killed in the occupied West Bank on February 1st and February 2nd.

It is worth mentioning that the Israeli army has killed 70 Palestinians, including ten children and one woman, in the West Bank this year.

38 Palestinians were killed in Jenin, 15 in Tubas, 6 in Nablus, 5 in Tulkarem, 3 in Hebron, 2 in Bethlehem, and 1 in Jerusalem.

The Israeli army has killed 895 Palestinians, including 185 children, 23 women, 2 journalists and 2 medics, and injured more than 6700 including 660 children, in the West Bank, since October 7, 2023.

253 Palestinians were killed in Jenin, 201 in Tulkarem, 100 in Nablus, 81 in Hebron, 75 in Tubas, 60 in Ramallah and Al-Biereh, 33 in Qalqilia, 31 in Jerusalem, 24 in Bethlehem, 20 in Jerusalem, 13 in Jericho and the Northern Plains, and 4 in Salfit.

In the Gaza Strip, the army killed at least 47.417 Palestinians, including 17.841 children and 12.298 women, and injured more than 111.571, largely children and women, since October 7, 2023.

Among the slain Palestinians in Gaza are 1068 Medical staff, 94 Civil Defense, 204 journalists, 756 educational staff, and 203 UN staff.

More than 11.200, including 4700 children and women, remain missing under the rubble of bombarded homes and buildings.

It is worth mentioning that the number of slain Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is not final as the reach continues under the rubble and on destroyed streets, alleys and heavily bombarded neighborhoods across the destroyed coastal enslave despite limited means and equipment.
