The Palestinian Detainees Committee has confirmed, Saturday, that Nasser Abu Hmeid, imprisoned by Israel, is in a critical condition, and denounced the Israeli decision that transferred him out of an Israeli hospital to the infamous Ramla prison clinic that lacks basic supplies and physicians.

The Committee stated that Abu Hmeid is dependent on a wheelchair, and needs help in all of his daily tasks, especially since he is unable to use his limbs.

It demanded his transfer to a civilian hospital that can provide him with the urgently needed medical attention, and warned that moving him to the prison clinic is significantly increasing the risks of death.

The Committee added that it is contacting various parties, international human rights, and legal groups, to secure his release so that he can be in a Palestinian hospital, close to his family.

It is worth mentioning that, last Tuesday, Israel transferred Abu Hmeid from Barzilai Medical Center to the infamous Ramla prison clinic despite the seriousness of his condition and his constant need for intensive care and treatment by specialists.

The Detainees Committee described transferring the seriously ill detainee to the prison clinic as an “official Israeli decision to execute him,” and called for his immediate release.

Nasser, from the Nusseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, was born on October 5, 1972, and was living with his family in the al-Am’ari refugee camp near Ramallah, in the central West Bank.

He was taken prisoner on April 12, 2002, and was sentenced to seven consecutive life terms and an additional fifty years in prison.

Abu Hmeid was abducted for the first time in 1987 and was sentenced to four months in prison before he was later abducted again and was sentenced to 2.5 years, and in the year 1990, he was abducted again and sentenced to a life term, however, he was released during the political talks between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization but was imprisoned again in the year 1996.

He also has four brothers who are imprisoned by Israel and serving life terms, in addition to a fifth brother who was taken prisoner in the year 2018, and a sixth brother, Abdul-Mon’em, who was killed by the Israeli army, May 31st, 1994.

The family home was demolished by the Israeli army five times, including when it was destroyed the last time in the year 2019.
