A young girl died Tuesday in the Gaza Strip due to severe malnutrition, raising the total number of famine-related deaths to 453, according to medical sources. Among the deceased are at least 150 children, as hospitals continue to report a surge in cases linked to hunger and undernutrition.
On Tuesday, a child has died from severe malnutrition and lack of medical supplies in the Gaza Strip, medical sources said.
Al-Jazeera quoted a source at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza city confirming the girl’s death after she starved to death.
Since the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) formally declared famine conditions in Gaza, on August 15, 175 deaths have been recorded—including 35 children—underscoring the rapid deterioration of public health under siege conditions.
Medical teams across Gaza are treating hundreds of patients suffering from acute hunger, exhaustion, and cognitive symptoms such as memory loss.
Approximately 17,000 children are currently experiencing acute malnutrition, while hospitals report critical shortages of beds, medicine, and therapeutic food.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that malnutrition among children under five has doubled between March and June, citing the ongoing Israeli blockade as a primary driver.
UNRWA health centers conducted nearly 74,000 screenings during that period, identifying 5,500 cases of severe acute malnutrition and more than 800 cases of its most critical form.
Humanitarian organizations continue to call for immediate international intervention, emphasizing the need for safe access to food, medical supplies, and essential services. The situation remains dire, with thousands of lives at risk amid collapsing infrastructure and restricted humanitarian access.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued an urgent appeal for the immediate evacuation of at least 25 critically ill and premature infants from neonatal units in Gaza City, warning that their lives are in imminent danger.
Earlier Tuesday, medical sources said the relentless Israeli bombardment continued throughout the night and morning killing at least 30 Palestinians and wounding dozens.
Israel has now killed at least at least 66,055 people and wounded 168,346, the majority of whom are children, women and elderly, since October 7, 2023, in addition to the thousands of missing Palestinians largely buried under the rubble of the devastated Gaza Strip.
