Israeli occupation forces abducted Jerusalem activist Mohammad Abu al‑Hummus on Wednesday evening from the Bab Hutta area, one of the main gates leading to the Al‑Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem.

According to local sources, soldiers stopped Abu al‑Hummus as he passed near Bab Hutta and quickly seized him, taking him to an interrogation center inside the city.

Witnesses said troops closed off the area and pushed residents back while carrying out the abduction.

Abu al‑Hummus is widely known in Jerusalem for his constant presence in Isawiya and the Old City, where he documents Israeli violations and accompanies residents during tense periods.

Over the past decade, he has been subjected to more than 160 abductions, largely tied to his activism and his insistence on raising the Palestinian flag during national events and public gatherings.

He has spoken many times about beatings, long interrogations, and restrictions imposed on his movement.

Wednesday’s abduction comes as Israeli forces intensify their measures across occupied Jerusalem during Ramadan, tightening access to the Al‑Aqsa Mosque and expanding their military deployment around the Old City and its gates.

Residents report stepped‑up inspections, new roadblocks, and a heavier security presence aimed at limiting Palestinian movement toward the mosque.

The abduction of Abu al‑Hummus fits into a broader pattern of targeting Jerusalem activists, especially those who accompany worshippers, document violations, or challenge Israeli attempts to restrict Palestinian presence in the city.
