On Tuesday, Israeli police detained 40 Palestinian workers from the city of Tira, located in the Triangle area in the 1948 Territories. The workers, all holding West Bank identity cards, were detained on the pretext of residing and working without permits.

The workers had entered the area seeking employment opportunities to support their families amidst the ongoing siege, invasions and destruction in various parts of the occupied West Bank.

This incident is part of a larger pattern where hundreds of Palestinian workers have been recently detained, harassed, and assaulted by Israeli police, purportedly for lacking entry permits.

Even Palestinian workers who possess valid permits face significant challenges on their way to their workplaces in the 1948 Territories.

Often leaving their homes in the early predawn hours, they are subjected to long queues and inspections at Israeli military roadblocks before being allowed to proceed, with some being refused entry.

A World Bank report indicated that approximately 150,000 workers from the West Bank have lost their jobs in the 1948 Territories due to tightened restrictions in place since October 2023.
