Soldiers kill an Israeli settler they mistaken for a Palestinian, meanwhile Israeli settler injuries a child in a separate incident. These stories, and more, coming up, stay tuned.
A 19-year old Israeli settler was apparently mistaken for a Palestinian and immediately shot to death by Israeli soldiers at the Hizme checkpoint near Jerusalem. According to a statement by the Israeli police, “A Jewish man was killed by Israeli border officers at the Hizme checkpoint north of Jerusalem after he tried to stab an Israeli soldier.”
The 19 year old, who has not been identified, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead upon arrival. The killed Israeli settler from Pisgat Ze’ev, a colonial settlement constructed illegally on Palestinian land in the West Bank.
Israeli military standard procedure is to shoot to kill any Palestinian who appears to be attempting to attack or approach soldiers, while their standard procedure toward Israeli attackers is to subdue them without using violence.
Also on Wednesday, a Palestinian child was injured after a speeding Israeli settler, living in an illegal colony in the southern West Bank governorate of Hebron, rammed him with his car.
Laith Shatat, 8, suffered moderate wounds, before Palestinian medics rushed him to the al-Ahli hospital, in Hebron. Among other injuries, the child suffered a head wound and fell unconscious after impact. The incident took place as the child was leaving school, located by the bypass road, east of Yatta town, south of Hebron.
Moreover, Palestinian medical sources have reported that four young men suffered, on Wednesday morning, the effects of teargas inhalation, after Israeli soldiers invaded Qalqilia, in the northern part of the West Bank.
Israeli soldiers invaded, overnight and during early hours Wednesday, several Palestinian communities, in various parts of the occupied West Bank, searched many homes and confiscated surveillance tapes and equipment.
Elsewhere, several armored Israeli military vehicles, including bulldozers, carried out on Wednesday morning, a limited invasion into Palestinian lands in al-Fakhari town, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The soldiers then bulldozed agricultural lands close to the border fence, installed sand hills and withdrew later.
Also in the coastal region, Israeli navy ships fired many live rounds at Palestinian fishing boats close to the shore, near the Nusseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza. Damage was reported but no injuries.
