A Palestinian detainee died in Israeli custody, on Saturday, after being held in Israeli prison for more than one year under Administrative Detention, without charges or the possibility of a trial.
Media sources said that the General Authority of Civil Affairs informed the Commission for Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) that the detainee, Mohammad Yassin Khalil Jaber, 22, died in Israeli prison on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Sources added that the slain prisoner, Jaber, was a resident of the Deheishe refugee camp, south of Bethlehem in the southern occupied West Bank; the circumstances of his death was not known at the time of writing this report.
The Commission for Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) stated that the administrative detainee, Jaber, had been held in the Negev Desert prison since December 11, 2023.
The Commission and the PPS added that the slain young man had previously sustained a severe gunshot injury to the abdomen, requiring a section of his intestines to be removed.
The Commission and the PPS stated that fifty-six Palestinian prisoners and detainees have died in occupation prisons since October 2023, while a total of 293 have died in Israeli prisons since 1967.
