The United Nations High Commissioner, Volker Türk spoke before the UN Human Rights Council on Monday, addressing Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Türk stated that the Israeli military has killed almost 1,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on October 11, 2025, adding that the vast majority of those killed were civilians.

He said that “the Israeli occupation is pushing Palestinians into an ever-shrinking portion of the territory [Gaza Strip] and imposing restrictions on life-saving aid.”

Türk added that Israeli settlers have escalated their destruction of Palestinian communities in the West Bank, while occupation forces continue to annex Palestinian land.

Since the beginning of 2026 settlers and soldiers have killed 57 Palestinians in the West Bank, injured 1,300, and abducted hundreds, while occupation authorities have issued 23 orders for the expropriation of occupied territory.

Finally, Türk asserted that “all those with influence must exert pressure to make the ceasefire a reality, to end the unbearable suffering of Palestinians, and to hold those responsible to account.”
