The UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee overwhelmingly adopted seven resolutions in support of Palestine, reinforcing international opposition to Israeli occupation policies and affirming Palestinian rights.
Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, welcomed the vote as a global call to implement international law, including Security Council Resolution 2334, and to take concrete steps to end colonialist expansion, end the occupation, and provide protection for Palestinian civilians, institutions, and holy sites.
The resolutions included renewed support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), with the General Assembly voting to extend its mandate and continue assistance to Palestinian refugees.
The resolution titled “Assistance to Palestine Refugees” passed with 149 votes in favor, 10 against, and 13 abstentions.
The resolution on UNRWA’s operations received 144 votes in favor, 11 against, and 16 abstentions, while the resolution on Palestinian refugee properties and related revenues passed with 153 votes in favor, 10 against, and 8 abstentions.
In addition, the committee adopted three resolutions addressing Israeli practices that violate the rights of Palestinians and other Arab populations in the occupied territories.
These included a resolution condemning illegal Israeli colonies in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan, which passed with 87 votes in favor, 17 against, and 62 abstentions.
Another resolution on Israeli colonialist activities received 146 votes in favor, 11 against, and 14 abstentions.
Ambassador Mansour emphasized that these votes reaffirm the international community’s commitment to Palestinian self-determination, the right of return, and the need to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing violations.
He called for practical steps to enforce UN resolutions and ensure continued support for Palestinian refugees through UNRWA, especially amid escalating colonizer violence and systematic displacement efforts across the occupied West Bank.
